Boxing.

I am not sure that talking about boxing will bring much attention to this blog, but it is a sport that at times is in my opinion the most entertaining and enthralling. Last year alone there have been some truly epic fights, from Cotto Vs Margarito 2 where Miguel Cotto avenged his previous loss, where it is believed that Margarito had altered his wraps thus making his hands even more dangerous. Cotto not only avenged his loss he decimated Margarito until the ringside doctors finally called the fight because of how much damage Margarito’s eye had sustained. We had Mayweather Vs Ortiz in the infamous match where many believe Mayweather caught Ortiz with a vicious sucker punch knocking him out. I personally have no problem with what Mayweather did as Ortiz has said publicly stated after the fight that on the head butt that had caused the stoppage which lead to the Mayweather knockout, he was trying to break Floyds nose with the illegal attack, after the stoppage the ref proceeded to tell the fighters to fight on and Floyd took full advantage when Ortiz tried again to apologize thus knocking his opponent out. We had Pacquiao Vs Marquez, which left many wondering if Marquez had not been robbed of a victory. I thought it was a very close fight, but that Juan Manuel did deserve the victory as he was pressing more and landing the harder of the punches. I also understand that boxing has two major commodities left in Mayweather and Pacquiao and I also believe the judges know this to be true as well, so if one of these two men are to lose it will have to be very decisive. One of my favorite fighters Sergio Martinez defended his title with a knockout victory over an overmatched Darren Barker, though the Englishman did provide more of a challenge then many people predicted he would. The epic Super Six Word Boxing classic also just recently came to a close which seen Andre Ward win the entire tournament of super middleweights. This was a great tournament that highlighted some of the best boxers in the world the only thing I would have changed would have been the inclusion of Canadian/ Romanian Lucien Bute, I think he is defiantly in the mix when the talk is about the best super middleweights in the world. Bute does have a major fight coming up soon against a very tough opponent in Carl Froch; hopefully he can pull out a victory and continue his climb up the rankings. Major upcoming fights of course include Pac-man versus Tim Bradley, which I believe could be a real test for Pacquiao but he should survive it, as Bradley tends to be a pretty defensive fighter. Also coming up is Mayweather Versus Cotto which I don’t understand other then being a major payday for Mayweather, this is a guy who was dismantled by Pacquiao not to long ago, this serves no purpose for Mayweather to take this fight on, but I am a Cotto fan and he does have a big heart and will come forward on Mayweather, but Floyd is just to quick and elusive that he will dominate. Sergio Martinez will fight Matt Macklin in what I believe will be a one sided demolition with Martinez walking away with an easy knockout victory. Boxing is truly a great sport I know people have soured on it because of reffing, judging, shady promoters, and fighters picking their fights but it can be one of the purest and most exciting sport today.
